Dentures

Dentures are dental appliances that replace missing teeth. Some can be removed for cleaning or while you sleep. Dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth. At Freeman Dental, our dentists take the impression of your gums and create dentures out of porcelain or acrylic. They are designed to replace the arch and gums.

How Do Dentures Work?

If you’ve lost all of your natural teeth, getting dentures is a viable option to restore your smile. Dentures are removable or implant-supported appliances that can replace all of your teeth at once. Dentures are much more comfortable and stable than they used to be, so your dentures will look and feel like your natural teeth.

Different Types of Dentures

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are natural-looking replacement teeth that are removable. They restore an entire upper or lower arch of teeth.

Complete dentures are a good option for patients who have lost all or a significant number of teeth. They may also be recommended after a patient has sustained facial trauma, has significantly decayed teeth, or has undergone a surgical procedure.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures, or removable partials, consist of artificial teeth on a gum-colored base and fit around your existing teeth to replace several missing teeth. They are held in place by clasps and can be removed for cleaning.

Overdentures

Overdentures are full dentures that are retained by dental implants. The implants are surgically placed into the jawbone and are left to heal. Once healed, the denture will be attached to the implants.

Overdentures are secured with implants, making them more stable than traditional dentures. The implants also help prevent bone deterioration that occurs when natural teeth are missing.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are made from dental-grade acrylic which is custom-molded to fit the gums. The acrylic base is designed to snap onto dental implants, which are tiny titanium posts surgically placed within the jawbone.

Mini Dental Implant Dentures

Mini dental implants can support dentures and require a less invasive procedure to be placed. Mini dental implants are sometimes also referred to as denture mini implants.

Patients can get mini dental implants for both upper and lower dentures. For the upper or lower jaw, four mini dental implants are used to secure the denture to the jawbone.

The Benefits of Dentures

Dentures are removable or implant-supported dental appliances that can replace multiple missing teeth. They are made to look natural while restoring your ability to chew and speak. They can help boost your confidence, restore your smile, and make it easier to eat a wider variety of foods, including healthier foods.

Dentures are a convenient option, making them an attractive choice for many patients. For patients who can’t undergo dental surgery, removable dentures are a great option.
